This is a market research estimate, not verified revenue. Steam is used as the base signal because public Steam reviews are easier to compare. Console and itch.io estimates are weaker additional layers based on Steam performance, not confirmed platform revenue. Actual results can differ because of regional pricing, bundles, DLC, refunds, free weekends, publisher contracts, taxes, platform deals, subscription services, Steam keys, non-Steam sales, and reporting differences.
Important limitation
This calculator does not show verified sales or verified revenue. Actual revenue can differ because of discounts, refunds, regional pricing, bundles, DLC, publisher deals, platform fees, subscription deals, taxes, Steam keys, non-Steam sales, and reporting differences.
Use the result as a market research estimate, not as proof of how much a specific developer or studio earned.

What does the Game Revenue Calculator estimate?
The calculator estimates a possible revenue range for a game by using public Steam reviews, the game’s full price, and hidden market assumptions such as average discounts, refunds, platform fees, and optional publisher or revenue-share splits.
The result is not confirmed revenue. It is an estimate that can help you understand whether a comparable game is commercially small, mid-sized, or unusually successful within its niche.
Why does it use Steam reviews as a basis?
Steam reviews are one of the strongest public signals available for PC game market research. While they do not reveal exact unit sales, they can help estimate how much attention, traction, and possible commercial performance a game received.
This is especially useful when researching indie games, premium PC games, niche genres, Kickstarter competitors, publisher-fit examples, and Steam store page benchmarks.
Why does the calculator also include PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and itch.io?
Many games are not only sold on Steam. A successful indie game may also earn additional revenue from PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, itch.io, bundles, or other storefronts. Because these platforms do not expose public data as clearly as Steam, the calculator treats them as additional estimated revenue layers based on Steam performance.
This makes the result more useful for multi-platform market research, but also less precise. Console and itch.io estimates should be treated as weaker signals than the Steam estimate.
Can you calculate exact Steam revenue from reviews?
No. Steam reviews can only be used as a rough public signal. The calculator estimates a possible revenue range, not exact sales.
Why does the calculator use a range?
Different games have different review behavior. Some audiences review often, while others rarely leave reviews. A range is more honest than one exact number.
Does this work for PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and itch.io?
It can provide a rough additional estimate, but Steam remains the strongest public signal. Console and itch.io estimates are weaker because those platforms expose less consistent public sales data.
Should I use gross revenue or studio-side revenue?
Studio-side revenue is usually more useful. Gross revenue can make a game look more successful than it was for the actual developer after platform fees, refunds, discounts, and publisher shares.
How to estimate game revenue from Steam reviews?
Steam does not publicly show exact sales numbers for most games. Because of that, many market researchers use Steam reviews as a rough sales signal. A game with more reviews usually has more players, but the relationship between reviews and sales is never exact. That’s why the calculator shows a revenue range instead of a single number.
